This revitalization project will expand and convert an existing 1950’s lumber storage warehouse and storage yard located in Peoria Arizona into a church, music venue, coffee shop, and park. The resulting 7,000sf building is situated within the mixed-use area of the City of Peoria’s Redevelopment Plan, and seeks to be an example of creative, community minded, adaptive re-use. The design aesthetic of Axiom is one of rugged material honesty offset with simple yet bold architectural moves. Inspired by it’s lumber yard roots, the project’s proposed industrial revival style will be highlighted by classic-modern and raw-timber furnishings, and a graphic design presence that speaks to the building’s history - hand painted signage on whitewashed block walls. Rather than cover up the old shell with faux stone or other ‘appliqué’ cladding systems, the intent is to unapologetically embrace the adaptive re-use of an old and rugged vessel. This project is scheduled to break ground in Fall 2016.
